Product Description
The Drive Shaft Shop releases it new generation 1000HP direct bolt in axle for the 2009-2010 cars.
The 2006-2008 SRT8 came from the factory with a small spline outer CV, that quickly became a big problem for higher HP cars right from the start. Since the beginning we have offered full-chromoly true performance axles for the car, but recently, “budget” axle upgrades have been made available from other companies. This new generation set of axles uses the later (2009-2010) factory axles, modified and being sold as “performance axles” for the early SRT8. Anyone in the know is aware that it is a 2009-2010 5.7 Automatic rear axle (Mopar part# 5180490-AC -complete with the yellow covers that Mopar uses to protect the ABS Tone rings) with the later 2009+ hub/bearing (Mopar part # 4578732-AD), that is a direct fit for the early SRT8. This axle set, with an upgraded bar, is being sold as a very expensive upgrade to inexpensive factory parts. We continue to offer full-chromoly performance axles for the car, but this “budget” axle is sufficient for the needs of most people (if you're going near 1000HP and going to the track we would suggest getting our purpose-built Level 5 Axle kit). So now that you know what is out there, these factors should be considered when spending your performance axle dollar.
What we would also like you to know is that a professional company like DSS goes a bit further. By now everyone knows that the 2009+ cars came from the factory with one big and one skinny axle center bar. This was done so that when the car would launch, it would allow the axles to twist and release at different rates, not twist and release at the same rate causing wheel hop. the rpoblem with this is that the thick bar is stronger and the skinny bar is weaker, wheel hop should be dealt with by suspension parts and not relying on axles (in our humble opinion) instead our axles are made using a new proprietary material from a mill in Sweden. We here at the driveshaft shop are getting away from saying exactly what the material is as this market has become a little monkey see-monkey do one. But we haven’t stopped there. We have years of extensive CV knowledge and upon examining the factory CV's, we realized that the stock CV cage would be as much of a weak point as the center bars, so we have created a full Aerospace grade chromoly CV internal set that will make these axles significantly stronger. Also, the factory axles use a hard plastic type boot that has a hard time sealing, so we have chosen a different durometer boot that will not only be a better fit on the CV, but has superior sealing capabilities.
All in all this is great set of axles for the 2006-2008 SRT8, complete with factory Tone or “ABS” rings (even has the nice yellow covers for shipping), same diameter chromoly center bars for superior strength, upgraded CV internals that are second to none in the industry, along with a better sealing boot and direct fit larger spline hubs, all for a list price of $1599.99. And for the 2009+ cars, we also have this axle set, but since the outer CV is already the larger spline from the factory, you do not have to change the wheel hubs on the car, and the list price on these axles is only $599.99 per side. These axle kits are in stock and ready to ship. Also, we have just secured a new direct material supply from a mill in Sweden and we are able to offer our full-chromoly high performance Level 2 600HP direct fit axles and the Level 2 direct fit axles for the 2006-2008 cars at a better price (see level 2 for details).
